Fields
It is generally recommended that you first plant a few fields before you try to farm animals. Fields are what helps feed your animals and are a necessary part of the Satyr Farm. They also are used in various recipes for the kitchen.
It is suggested that you grow at least two of each type of crops to properly start out your farm. You can grow more crops as you expand the farm with animals.
To plant fields, simply rez on the ground and click it. A Dialog Box will pop up and you can choose the type of plant you wish to grow. You can either edit, click and drag to acquire more fields for your farm or you can rez them from your inventory.
There are currently three types of fields:
(more to come)
If you do not plant your fields right away and are using the NPC farmer, they will plant them for you.
NPC Farmer is a slob
If you are using the NPC, you should still check the farm daily as they tend to leave buckets of crop laying around and they will expire after a set number of days.
(see Farm NPC's for further documentation)
If you are using an NPC Farmer, click the field again and you can choose to turn on auto water and the farmer will water the growing plants for you.
It does take a few days for the plants to be ready for harvesting.
The NPC Farmer will also harvest the fields for you and place the items into their proper storage bins. Again, make sure you check your farm, the NPC can be a slob and leave your harvested buckets of crops laying around.
Once the fields have completed their Harvest Cycle, they will die and can be replanted.
Don't Let Him Do All The Work
You can still harvest your own crops even with the NPC Farmer being active.
If you are not using the NPC Farmer, once the hover stat's show crops at 100% ready, click the field for the dialog box and choose 'harvest'. A bucket will appear above the field. Touch the bucket and it will start to follow you as you take it to the proper storage unit for the crop. Crops are stored in the barrels - click the barrel and choose add product. Find your crop and click it. The bucket will automatically dump into the barrel and disappear. (see 'storage' for further information on the barrels)
He Cooks, Cleans, Slices, and Dices.
The NPC Farmer will also make items for the farm animals like slop.
